The Mother is a brand-new Netflix film in which Jennifer Lopez will portray an assassin.
The screenplay was written by Misha Green, who was recently was confirmed as the new director of the Alicia Vikander-starring Tomb Raider sequel. Niki Caro, who last year directed Disney’s live-action Mulan remake, will be directing the film. The Mother centers on a formidable female assassin who emerges from hiding to save the daughter she abandoned years earlier while evading dangerous men.
In addition, Lopez has agreed to produce and appear in The Cipher, a Netflix thriller that is based on the best-selling book of the same name. Lopez will portray an FBI agent caught up in a serial killer’s cat-and-mouse game.
Lopez is presently starring in Shotgun Wedding with Josh Duhamel, who recently took over for Armie Hammer as her co-lead. The action comedy is about a couple whose vacation wedding is hijacked by thieves. The romantic comedy Marry Me starring Owen Wilson and The Godmother, which is based on the true story of Griselda “La Madrina” Blanco, a Colombian drug lord who was a significant player in the Miami cocaine trade in the 1980s, also has the actor and singer on board.
