At a Texas auction, one person paid an incredible amount for a single page of a Spider-Man comic.
According to Heritage Auctions in Texas, the record bid for the artwork in a 1984 edition of “Marvel Super-Heroes Secret Wars” was $3.36 million.Yes, all of this for a single comic book page. With enormous power, however, comes great responsibility.
But fans of Spider-Man may recognize page 25 of volume 8 as the first time the hero dons the black Spidey-suit that leads to the creation of Venom, an iconic villain in the Marvel universe.
This black Spidey-suit was originally shown in the 2007 Spider-Man 3 film, as well as in the comics, when Peter Parker had dark encounters with the black parasite blob and becomes its first human host. Eddie Brock, the second host, finally transforms into Venom, the fully developed evil.
Captain America Included
The pricey page also includes legendary heroes such as Captain America, Mr. Fantastic, the Hulk, and Thor, but the big cash cow is Spider-dark Man’s side, which will eventually become Venom.
The bidding started at $330,000 and ended on Jan. 13, the first day of the four-day auction in Dallas.
A page from a 1974 edition of “The Incredible Hulk” that teased the first appearance of Wolverine set the previous record for a single-page for an American comic at $657,250, according to KTVT.
The auction’s buyers were not identified, but one can only hope that the high bidder on this Spidey-page is pleased with their new purchase.
