This and other family-friendly films are desperately needed. The American Underdog is a film about love and hope in the face of adversity that comes at the appropriate time. Football was merely the icing on the cake. The action scenes were very near to the audience. I felt like I was right there with this one. Even though I am a film critic, this is one of the few times I did not want to be. More films like this should be supported since even if you don’t like football, you can appreciate an inspiring film. Am I right?
Overall, this is a high-quality, life-inspiring film. Even with its problems, this is one of those films that I find difficult to detest. I’m a sucker for true underdog tales, and Warner’s is without a doubt one of the greatest in sports history. For everyone who has ever felt like their chance for greatness has passed them by, his narrative serves as a reminder that nothing we go through is in vain. Also, This is a straight up biographical drama told in chronological order so the events keep very close to the true progression of Kurt Warner’s life.
Because of the performances, chemistry between the key characters, the competent direction, and an interesting enough script, will most likely cheer for Warner to succeed.
