The Kingsman series of movies is getting another entry. One of our favorite movie series will get a fourth film for the Kingsman franchise, and the third to tell the story of Taron Egerton’s Eggsy, is set to begin production in September 2022. While promoting The King’s Man, a prequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service and Kingsman: The Golden Circle that tells the origin story of the spy group during World War I, the franchise’s producer and director Matthew Vaughn revealed the news in an exclusive interview with ComicBook.com. “We’re ready to go,” Vaughn said. “We’ll start filming in September.” He hinted that this Kingsman 3 would conclude Eggsy’s story.
The King’s Man, which opens in theaters later this month, introduces a completely new cast and cast of characters to the franchise.
Ralph Fiennes, Djimon Hounsou, Harris Dickerson, Gemma Arterton, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and others join the saga, but given their story’s World War I setting, they are unlikely to appear in the third Kingsman film with Egerton and the gang. Stranger things have happened in Kingsman films than a character living from WWI to 2022. Earlier this month, the film was shown to members of the press, who responded with mostly mixed and some positive reactions.
The Numbers
The first Kingsman film was released in 2014, and the sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, was released in 2017. The first film is largely beloved by fans, with the sequel falling short of recapturing that magic for many, though the things people liked about it were enough to keep them seated as the first film grossed $414.1 million and the second grossed $410.9 million. The King’s Man, on the other hand, has its work cut out for it. It arrives in a crowded box office landscape in late December, competing with Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Matrix: Resurrections, Sing 2, and other titles as a prequel without the lore of characters continuing their stories. The R-rated action-romp has very little in common with those other films, which may work to its advantage as it caters to those seeking funny, action-packed, satirical thrills.
