The Last Duel Is A Good Adaption

The Last Duel Review

It’s too bad this film didn’t do so well in the theaters. But, the advertising for this film didn’t actually do it equity either. The marketing of this film introduced it as a middle age dramatization piece, maybe about the honor of a lady or something to that effect. In any case, this is considerably more meaningful and intriguing, and surprisingly movie then it’s given credit for.

The film is based on Eric Jager’s 2004 book, “The Last Duel: A True Story of Trial by Combat in Medieval France,” The film breaks down the tale of Marguerite’s assault into 3 viewpoints: the point of view of her better half, Jean, who is portrayed as an honorable knight who fearlessly shields his significant other; the viewpoint of her attacker, Jacques, who is portrayed as an enchanting scoundrel who is essentially overwhelmed by energetic desire; and Marguerite, who is portrayed as a skilled lady wedded to a brutish spouse who doesn’t see the value in her. This film is about the narratives we tell ourselves, and furthermore about the obvious contrasts men and lady can have on a circumstance. I thought this film was extremely provocative, and it was chilling to see similar equals between bygone eras and presently. I know my last 3 reviews have been positive, but this one matches up well. I am a sucker for truth based, historical melodramas.
